There was always the class clown in elementary and high school, and sometimes even in college (Bard College might have had one), but what about acting classes? Can there be a class clown in an acting class? Is it possible when you are in a class made up completely of performers, learning how to improve their acting and performing abilities? Who stands out as class clown in classes full of clowns? Acting encourages the kind of behavior displayed by the class clown. Improvisation, comedy, physical stunt work, the consummate class clown must be a master of all three, and many actors are not even master of one. Thus, the value of acting classes.
Only in acting classes can you get crazy, jump up and down, scream, yell, cry, joke around, be stupid, and possibly get extra credit for being the biggest smart-ass in the room. Acting classes are designed for many different types of acting, and are taught using various methods. You can decide for yourself which is best for you or what you want to learn.
The great thing is that you are never limited to one method or aspect of acting. You can continue to take acting classes all of your life and never repeat the same material. If you are truly dedicated to your craft and you are not currently taking acting classes, look some up and enroll, it never hurts, and will certainly help. Sometimes its how people end up finding acting work.
