What is the best job for kids? Acting. Why? Because kids are born actors, which is putting it nicely. The reality is that kids are born liars, or more accurately, they become experts after watching adults do it constantly for years.
Someone once said that acting is lying, and it certainly is. You are pretending to be someone who you are not, and acting like you are living, or lived, a life that you never did, did things that you have never done, know things that you don't know, believe things that you don't believe. Kids love to role-play and pretend, using their imaginations to put themselves within a play time fantasy that can go on for hours and include numerous different characters. Acting for kids, sure.
If you don't feel the same way, then certainly, don't encourage acting as a career for your kids. Do consider however, that it is a great outlet for them, and in many cases is very therapeutic. Hyperactive kids who have trouble concentrating (hello, they're bored) don't need to be drugged up and turned into a zombie with half of their formal personality. Acting can be a tool for these kids to learn focus, and can hold their interest and let them have fun while they are learning a new skill. Also, kids who are shy or introverted, or have trouble expressing themselves, acting is a way for them to learn to overcome their fears and nervousness, while simultaneously teaching them various new ways to express themselves.
